I had the pleasure of photographing this tiny red-headed newborn and her big sister with their sweet family while they were relaxing and enjoying their new family dynamic in the comfort of their home.
I just adore photographing at-home newborn sessions. There is something special about being welcomed into someones home to photograph this major change to their family dynamic. It is an incredibly special and life-changing event whether its your first baby, your second, third or forth! Having a photographer in your home in the first couple of weeks after delivery can seem overwhelming.
Here are some tips to help ease you into the smoothest at-home lifestyle newborn session
Don’t stress about things that don’t matter. Truly, only basic tidying is necessary. Don’t be worried about making a spotless and sparkling space - the session is about YOU, not your home, after all.
Make sure there’s no unnecessary clutter, especially in your master bedroom, family room and the baby’s room. We will only be sticking to those rooms or the rooms where light is best. Don’t worry about vacuuming or deep cleaning anything! I promise that stuff won’t show up on camera.
If your toddler/big sibling has a meltdown or is bouncing off the walls, it’s okay. Their world has just been turned upside down and they all act like this.
If you’re a newly post-partum Mama, dress comfortably! Maxi dresses, leggings, and long sweaters flatter your body and keep you comfortable which is the most important thing!
If your baby is fussy, try not to stress. All babies are not the same, I have photographed some babies who sleep the whole session through, and others that cry…ALOT. The best thing about a lifestyle session is that we won’t force baby into anything. If baby needs to feed, burped or changed that’s completely okay. Working with small babies means sometimes we’ll be letting baby guide us and listening to his or her needs. If he/she is fussy, we can get everything we need while your baby is being snuggled! - it’s the only way to make sure our session is happy, calm and memorable for everyone.
