A Jewish Naming Ceremony

As a family photographer in New York, I am honored to be asked to document intimate family traditions. Recently, I was asked to document a beautiful and meaningful event for a family. The event was a Jewish Naming Ceremony for a little girl at the grandparents home.

A baby naming ceremony is the day a baby is given his or her Hebrew name. For a boy it is done during the Bris ceremony, and for a girl the timing is flexible. A person’s Hebrew name will be used throughout his or her life at different life cycle events, like bar mitvahs and weddings. The naming ceremony helps to welcome the baby into Judaism and signifies the parents’ dedication to raising the child in the Jewish faith.

With Covid this family chose to do the baby naming a bit later then usual. The ceremony and the party took place at the grandparents house in New Jersey. With more space for everyone to gather and a intimate backyard ceremony it turned out to be beautiful and special day for this little girl.

Please enjoy these images, and reach out to learn more about me documenting your next family gathering.
