What To Wear For Your Outdoor Family Photos in NYC
The colors of moms jacket and dads pants compliment the whole family. Whereas girls dress colors of pink and white compliment their brothers outfit.
Stressing out about clothing choices for your family photo session is totally understandable!
Let me start by saying, that my goal for your family photo session is to document your love and connection, and your family as it is right now, so the wardrobe takes the backseat. YOU is what is important!
However, here are some simple tips to keep in mind when choosing your outfits for your family photo session.
TIP #1: Be comfortable
Soft pinks compliment the blues well.
Don’t wear anything you wouldn’t normally wear. Be yourself and comfortable, especially when it comes to kiddos. They will not be their happy and relaxed selves if the clothes or shoes that they are wearing are uncomfortable or itchy or too big or small. Let them help you pick their outfit and make it part of the fun!
Your clothes should be comfortable to move around freely in, without worrying about a bra something showing or riding up. It will take away from the fun of the photoshoot if you are worried about your wardrobe the whole time.
TIP #2. Start with Mom
Incorporating jean material into whole family outfit works well against the green background.
We want to look our best for the photos as mothers, as we are often more critical of ourselves than anyone else. Coordinate everyone else’s outfit around moms. So, moms pick your favorite dress/pants/skirt etc. Whatever makes you feel comfortable and beautiful.
TIP #3 Shoes
Nothing ruins a beautiful family moment like a pair of dirty sneakers or character shoes. Please choose comfortable and cute shoes for the whole family as we will be walking a lot during our session together.
The pop of red is in every person. Moms red shoes and design on shirt compliment daughters shoes and shirt. Dad has red flowers in his design and son has red in his shoes.
TIP #4: Keep it neutral
Navy, tan, beige, all work well together complimenting the whole family.
Neutral tones and earth colors for family photoshoots always look best. You can create family outfits with complementary colors to give a nice well-rounded look. Don’t match your kids and avoid wearing bright or neon colors as they will reflect on your skin tone.
TIP #5 Please do not be matchy-matchy
Please don’t be that family that is wearing a coordinated all white outfit. We want your personality to shit through your clothing and when everyone wears the same thing it takes away from that. Unless you have adorable twins that match in real life -just don’t do it.
In this instance funky and cool matching outfits work well!
TIP #6: Get inspiration from your favorite online brands!
Look online on your favorite clothing website for some ideas. Think H&M, Zara, Old Navy etc. There is always family dressed super cute and coordinated.
