What to Wear to Your Maternity Photography Session in New York
As a busy Brooklyn baby photographer, I have the honor of photographing many pregnant mamas over the course of my career. As a mother myself, going through a pregnancy myself I understand how hard it feels to dress yourself in the third trimester. As a result, I get lots of questions about the ideal clothes to wear for maternity photography session.
Let me first say that there is no right answer to this question. Every woman has their own unique style and level of comfort. I am always there to suggest based on what looks good on a woman’s body and on a photo image, however most important is for you to be yourself and comfortable in what you are wearing.
CONSIDER WEARING A DRESS TO ACCENTUATE YOUR BABY BUMP
A maxi dress is a nice way to flatter your gorgeous bump and show off your curves. A long dress can give you great movement for photos.
WHAT NOT TO WEAR
Basic what-not-to-wear advice for color choices is: stay away from neons, large logos, overwhelming patterns, and horizontal stripes. Other than that, choose what makes you comfortable.
NOT A DRESS PERSON?
If you are not a dress person, that’s totally ok. What I like about dresses is the movement we are able to incorporate when walking, twirling, swinging, and how they make a pregnant woman’s belly look. But I will say it again and again your comfort and confidence is what matters most. Jeans, your husband button down, a sweater, even tights all work to accentuate you baby bump.
CONSIDER A SEXY OUTFIT FOR PART OF YOUR SESSON
If part of our session takes place at the comfort of your home. If you are up for it, how about going sexy? You can wear lingerie, a simple bed sheet, boy shorts and a sports bra, options are limitless.
BE COMFORTABLE
Whether or not you decide to wear a dress, I want you to be comfortable and feel confident in your selection. I want you to be able to move around so that we can make some gorgeous images to remember this special time in your lives!
If you are pregnant and want to have your own maternity session, I’d love to get you on mybooks.
